must a MT put all points on protection or I can have a little of something else?
I tryed 31 points into protection, I wasent vary satisfyed with it for 5 man dungons, this is why:
being pro speced yealds the lowest rage generation. Less rage = less opertunitys to use agro generating abilitys
talents that made me tuffer seemed rather insubstanchal, tuffness (10% more armor) only lowered the damage i took by about 2% (i had a mixed set of blues and greens at the time)
Theres no talents that rase your elemintal resistances, a lot of end game dungons have big elemental damage.
Lacking tactical mastery means you cant quicly use thunder clap (good for keeping mobs that havent been attacked on you), intersept (mostly pvp), and wirl wind.

I don't think you need to sink all of the points in, but that 31 point Shiled Bash is pretty keen from a Prot perspetive. I'd say at minimum though you want to
Here's a 11/4/36 build a friend of mine has. He does pretty good damage what with the one-hand specialization points and the cruelty crits from Fury. Deflection, TM and Anger Management help him to keep rage around too.

Fact is, if your Protection specced, you shouldn't be turned off by the tree, it's pretty good. But this variation offers some interesting adjustments. I'd do what I could to use an axe though, to really maximize your crit chances. Epic-axe like Deep Woods is nice, especially with a Crusader on it (health and strength buff heals, adds to damage, and improves your blocking absorption).
If you like to tank but want more of the other trees, go Arms or Fury with some Prot and be an off-tank.

your friend's build is very interesting. he did not get to the end of any tree. I would like to know the idea behind it

Simply put he wanted high threat and to do damage too, so he begged out of the 31-pt talents.
Don't know if it's the best, but if you want an end-talent you can't really have 'a little bit of everything' to any effect I've seen.
The trees are made for that purpose - the more effective talents being tier 2 and 3 talents that need investments in tier 1 to get them. He says that even though he doesnt have an end talent, he has very high threat as a tank, and does prett good damage with the right weapon gear.
Try it out see if you like it! :Waldo:

I think this is a little more standard...

It focuses on high threat and rage conservation/generation. Last Stand and Imp Shield Wall are very, very nice wipe savers too.

None of the tanks in my guild have more than 17 points into Protection. The most popular are 31/3/17 or 31/5/15. The 17 points allows you to get all 5 points in Defiance as well as Last Stand, which I have fallen in love with in conjunction with my Life Giving Gem.
Abilities like Sweeping Strikes and Mortal Strike have great PvE uses, and the obvious choices like 5% Parry is a big jump in damage mitigation.

To be a MT you don NEED any points in protection. However, it is nice to have for higher end instances. My currennt build is 10/0/41, and i have had many other builds including the 31/20/0 and 31/5/15 builds.
being pro speced yealds the lowest rage generation. Less rage = less opertunitys to use agro generating abilitys
in some ways you are right Kuba. in 5 man instances you dont take enough damage to be able to spam sunders unless your on a boss. When you reach the end game instances though, i have found that i never have a shortage of rage. Between shield spec and imp shield block, every time they attack i gain about 7 rage. Also, with a protection build you dont need to spam sunders as much to keep agro because your normal hits cause more threat then they would if you were arms. As far as Concussion Blow and Shield Slam (the 31 point talent and its prereq) go, they are fun in PvP but concussion blow is almost usless in high end content as most mobs can not be stuned, and shield slam is nice when you are maxed on sunders on a boss fight as it creates a high amount of threat and you will have the rage to spare on a boss.

i would say, loose Imp Heroic, Imp Hamstring, and booming voice in order to get Imp overpower, Imp charge, and max out Unbridled Wrath. after that i would move into blood craze (3 points) and then Enrage (3 points). I would even go so far as to say that you should drop 2 points from Deflection inn order to get the last to points of enrage.
No dont do that, keep Imp Heroic, as thats one of your main uses for tanking. Imp Overpower/Charge are more PvP orientated. IMO - the 31/5/15 is alot better for an Off-tank. Its godly for a tank in MC/BWL/AQ40 to get a full protection specc. Better aggro control and alot better for you and your group.
