What's the best profession suited for my character, which is a gnome rogue? Actually right now I'm an engineer by profession but I don't earn a lot of gold by being one. Should I try other profession or should I stick to this one.
Rogues can stealth easily. If you are willing to take the time you can of course become a Alchemist and a herbalist. Herbalist will earn you nice cash while you also need it to make thistle tea yourself. Alchemist you can make your own potions and such (even transmutes which regularly bring in 3-7g every few days depending on your server). These go hand in hand and require little but maybe 2 hours of serious farming to get mats. On a side note once you learn the greater potions (flasks) and greater fire resist you can sell these easily for a much much higher price.
Herbalist/Alchemist.

If you're a Rogue stick with mining and engineering so you can make practice locks to get your lockpicking skill up.

Id say screw all the professions except mining and skinning. These are the real money makers. While out killing you can skin any animal you come across and mine any mine as well. Then take the skins and ore and sellem on AH. People trying to lvl their blacksmithing, engineering, leeatherworing... who dont want to go out and gather the stuff will be like flies on a dung pile for your AH comodeties :)
Besides those practice lock boxes are only good for so long. There are lock boxes in Wetlands, Redridge mountains at the mill, Sunken Temple area, in tanaris where the pirate cove is. And ussually by the time you learn the practice lock boxes your already higher lvl then what they can help with.
