We sincerely apologize to all players who have characters on the four servers that were taken offline yesterday for emergency maintenance. They are Archimonde, Dalaran, Khadgar, and Mal'Ganis. We understand that you are all very eager to return to your characters and we understand your frustration. We are doing everything we can to bring your servers back online. However, after careful analysis, we regret to inform our players that these four realms will need to remain offline for a period of days as we migrate them to a new database cluster. We currently estimate that the total downtime will last 1-2 days. We would prefer to take this more long-term approach rather than implement a short-term fix, as we do not want to see the problems appear again later on. We know that you were looking forward to playing World of Warcraft during the holidays and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience during this downtime and we hope to get you back online soon.

Thoughts?

I am not restarting again, and I am not leaving what will end up being the best PvP server. Let them shut it down for 2 days, i'll eat lots of turkey, watch football, and laugh at all the drama on the bnet forums.

Doesn't bother me. I've got a character on Archimonde (my highest actually), but I've started at least 20 other characters. I have so many level 5-10s on every single timezone, it hurts my head to think about it. I don't mind restarting new ones at all. Everybody has been switching servers around like crazy, trying to find a nice balance.

Actually most of us did that all through beta.. all the dedicated PvP guilds or any guild whatsoever is not making multiple chars on different servers right now. We were all expecting to grind through the couple days (or week for some people) we had off, and now we get nothing. Watch the servers come back online the day I have to go back to work..

I meant to get the right balance for the server, not the right character. Your condescending tone is yet again misplaced.

Condescending tone?

I still don't follow you. How do you get the "balance" of a server? It's launch week, they're all going to suck except the new ones which will be dead empty. Take for example servers like the new Eastern RP one, which had 9 people online both horde+alliance together when I checked it this morning.. and those were all 1-5.

Pretty much everyone who was in beta already has a guild to follow to a certain server or had a server picked out for themselves..

Well the issue with shutting down the servers is the intentions - are they actually getting more powerful hardware or are they hoping people get tired and go to other servers? Im pretty sure most will want to stay on Archimonde and the other three so hopefully Blizzard opted for the former and not the latter :)

I dont think they did it to spite people on the servers. The lag on Arch wasnt too bad, no worse then in beta. Ido however expect a perfect re-release :fist: after this 2 day downtime, no lag no crashes and no maintenance for atleast 2 weeks straight but thats just me :crucified

How do you get the "balance" of a server?

Because, as I said, people have been moving around an awful lot. Like DIE did, deliberately choosing not to stay on Archimonde because of overcrowding. They must be over the moon about their choice. And a lot of other smaller guilds have done the same since. The guilds, not to mention single players, have spread out a lot over the last few days. The makeup of each server right now is vastly different from two days ago. Also not everyone joined at once. A lot of people came along on the second or third day of release, and were more or less forced to choose new servers because of queues or lag, which in turn leads to people relocating from their first choice to be with their friends who only just managed to get in. The point is, the populations are spreading out a lot, and that means the balance of population to server performance is changing. I think tons of people are moving around, making characters on a lot of servers, before settling down on one they know they'll stay on.

I don't think so. The only people I can see doing this would be people who had barely heard of the game or done no research about it, and just bought it and started playing.

Launch week is not a time to pick a server based on stability.. because like you said you will end up flip flopping servers every hour and not get anywhere.

I can absolutely 100% promise you that people who have been playing all through closed beta have been switching servers. One of the major 'conspiracy theories' about the reason for Archimonde et al being shut down for so long, was that Blizzard were trying to make people move to other servers and settle there. That would not and could not be a theory if only total newbs were switching server.

I never said that at all. I said people were 'flip flopping' servers and WERE getting somewhere.

Just because there are massive amounts of formed guilds on that server doesn't mean it's the best IMO.

I'm having a great time on Kel'Thuzad - virtually no lag and no queue's. I've already been involved in serveral pvp encounters :D

Anyways, how's it going for everyone?

Doesn't bother me.

I can't stand it. The first 10 levels are SOO mindless, boring, and identical for each race/class, I would end up shooting myself if I had to start another character.

I'm glad my server is doing well.

I like the first ten levels. I just like the speed of them. I get that levelling rush, heh.

hehe, I'm also on kal'thuzad atm, lvl 31 Orc Shaman. That server is great, lots of friendly people and orgs, plus theres no lag, no queres, and the servers not down to often. My in game char name is Reorc, shoot me a tell sometime Danielle ^^

My god.. 31? You either need a girl, or a job my friend. I have put roughly 4-6 hours a day into this game since release, and am only lvl 20. How many hours do you put in? How do you find the time?

lol, well I have been on Thanksgiving vacation. I do have a wife also and she is visiting her relatives, dont ask why I am not with her - long story. So basically I have had this whole week to play with no distractions, but all that ended today. Thats why I am forum surfing :p I do a lot of that at work ;p

well shoot, I had a lot of time this 4 day weekend as well and I am nowhere NEAR 31... I just can't fathom how that can be done in 6 days.

If you ask me, reaching 50% of the level cap shouldn't even be POSSIBLE in an mmorpg in less then a week, no matter HOW much time you have. I think we are going to have swarms of lvl 60 players in 2 months. Blizz screwed up the ease of level advancement, unless of course they plan on making the majority of the game's content for lvl 60 players.

Actually, I know a couple people that aren't buying the game at all, just because how dumbed down the game is, and how easy it is to lvl. It seems like the game was designed for 13 year olds.

Yeah, I have seen people level 36+ already, kinda sucks. I agree it should'nt be possible to reach 60 within the first few weeks but, I would rather hit 60 fast and less painful where I can go do more PvP, raids, and anything else Blizz has in store for the higher level content, than to spen three months having to reach max level grinding and doing quests all day.

From what I know, the cost to level from level 40+ was increased by 30%.

But don't forget, there is much much more to the game then just Character vs Character, and how fast you can level, and how uber your loot is. There is entire game world to explore, admire, and discover.

Maybe im not leveling as much as the next guy (however I am higher then some) because I actually take the time to explore the map, read the quests, and absorb some of the story line. I feel sorry for the people that feel the need to just GRIND throug the levels, because I would think they are missing a lot of what the game has to offer.

Nydoz, I actually ended up going Alliance :P I’m a 23 NE druid… Are you in a guild? We are forming one soon, then our teams can be official enemies >:]

Holycow, I like how fast we can lvl –I’m on a pvp server – so most of the real fun just begins at high levels, especially with the high end content. My char is within the lvl curve it seems so I’m happy.

is there any other way to fly? I already have two NE kills under my belt ;)

Not in a guild yet, soon hopefully tho. I have already killed a lot of alliance. Today in Stranglethorn (or something of that nature, Its N of Booty Bay) I ran into a 32 Pally/ 30 rogue. First it was me vs the Rogue, He caught me off guard but I was all buffed, had my sheilds/totems up, he died fairly quickly. Then I barely was able to kill off the Pally with like 30 Hp to spare, was fun. (the pallys name was Gage, forgot the rogues, know him Danielle?)

i've seen a Gage running around but don't actually know him.

we're trying to lvl our group right now and prepare mostly. we've done a little pvp though, mostly from convience of horde invading our territory.

I'm sure we'll meet in Hillsbrad eventually >=)

My name's Giselle - so watch out :P hehe
