Is there any such thing as a casual player on WoW? I've had the game since Nov. when it came out and the very day i logged on there were level 12's. Now that I am finally level 12 I am seeing people all the way to level 40. How? Nothing better to do? Or am i missing out on something? If there is a faster way to level, help me out here.. :cking:

I hit lvl 12 in about 6 hours of playing my first day (took the day off work) The first 15-20 levels come REALLY fast. I am a casual player and I just hit 25 last night in the wailing caverns. I work a 10 hour job during the week, I run my own photgraphy business which takes up about 15 hours a week, and I play in a band another 15. and I STILL have time to get in enough game time for wow :)

the people who are already 40+ are mostly Beta members. They know all the quests already and where to go, so it's easier.

And a lot of them get 8-12 hours of game time a day, 6-7 days a week. I don't have that luxury :|

With MMOG's you have to have quite a bit of time to play if you want to compete with others. Knowing what you are doing helps out a lot because you are'nt waisting any time trying to figure stuff out.. Also if you know a lot of people who can help you, like a guild or something, this I think is important. If you need help with a few quests you can just ask some guildies around your level, or if you have questions and such.

I am a casual player...I had thanksgiving off for a few days and minus the servers going down and such, I got some good playing time in and a good start going. I did not get in on the Beta testing. I had some friends who did though, who pointed me in the right way to go and so forth. Since thanksgiving, I am able to log on about 3 weeknights for maybe 2 hours a pop, and then maybe one long day on the weekend. I am at 21 now. My time is short, and in order to keep up with my friends who are more hardcore gamers.....I have to use my time wisely when I am running around. I have even gone so far as to have a friend of mine sell a few things on the auction house or grab some items for a quest completion, things like that. I picked skinning as one of my skills since I can do that as I level, and am just saving supplies so when I have time I can really work on my leatherworking at a later time (which is only at skill 100 right now). I sort of set up a plan before I log on....say, today I am going to do quests in such and such city, and I just focus on that.......or today I am going to go kill stuff and level, and I find a good place to camp out and just kill and chat. I also organize my kill days for when I have good resting experience. If I don't, next thing I know I have spent 2 hours looking around at something and I didn't go anywhere :). On my long weekends, I will spend the time exploring and seeing new areas and leveling my skills.

I'm a casual player, by circumstance rather than desire. My job and girlfriend are pretty much deciding exactly how much I can play, and when. I'm not really used to it. I mean, if it were up to me, I'd be playing at least twice as much as I do now, but I can't whether I like it or not. As a consequence, I'm really not getting anywhere near as engrossed with WoW as I normally do with MMORPGs. I'm not feeling the mad levelling rush as much as I used to, and I'm not itching to get back into the game and play. I'm honestly not sure how long I'll stick with WoW. I'll try get up to 60 and see how many friends I have in the game (currently more or less zero), but it's just not gripping me like it should.

Nah. I'm honestly really disappointed with a lot of Blizzard's decisions. As time goes on, things get further and further from their original vision. So SO many of the things they laid out as being even remotely innovative changes from the genre, have almost all been removed. Even despite that, I'm just not feeling the buzz I got when I first played WoW. The quests quite blatantly just repeat over and over, with different names. That's true of all other MMORPGs too, but in those the treadmill-depression syndrome took months to hit. Maybe I've just played too much beta (odd, since I didn't even get into Closed), I dunno. Whatever it is, I'm not addicted to WoW at all. I have been to every other MMORPG I played.

I know what you mean Niandralades, but having some friends helps a lot when playing MMOGs. I have tried Everquest and such and it did not last long at all because I knew absolutely no one. As time goes on in WoW I am meeting more and more new people which I actually look forward to seeing everyday. Now that Im a lot higher lvl it is becoming increasingly harder to level and quest and the stamina I once had for this game is dropping. But I still do look forward to reaching 60, going on a whole lot more raids, instances and the PvP at higher lvls is awsome.

Yeah, I do think that a huge, huge part of my disappointment at times is the lack of friends to play with. There are so many servers and time zones, all of different types, that I'm a lot more spread out than I thought I would be. The guild I was all lined up for crashed at the very last minute, so I didn't have another lined up, and I haven't found any yet that I'm really fond of. In AO, I met two really really awesome people on practically my first day. The guy was one of the funniest people I've met, and I ended up dating the chick, so yeah. I haven't met anybody as cool as that in WoW though. People leave the group the second their quest is done, and I never see them again. The only people I repeatedly see are the guys in General chat, who I never really have a chance to make friends with. It's a shame. I'm hoping to build more 'bonds' once the instances start coming faster though.

You could always join our guild. =)
Even in the morning there is almost always at least one person on. In the afternoon often as many as ten. We may not be huge, but we have fun. I'm level 25 now and would be more than happy to help you out with any quests, items, or questions you had. We also still have some people who are in the teens, so you wouldn't be that far behind. We actually have a pretty even spread. Thomas is our highest guy at 42. His friend from work is second at 40. The rest are spread from the mid 30's to the mid-late teens.
Anyway, I think having friends to play with makes all the difference in the world. The two times I stopped playing beta for a month or so were because I got tired of playing by myself. Now that we have more active people it is a lot more fun. In beta we got all excited when we had enough people to make a 5 person party. Now we sometimes have enough to make 3.
I have noticed that it is easier to make friends once you get into the high instances because you will start seeing people who are good and people who just really suck. If you're good people will rememeber you, and visa versa as well. Parl became really popular in beta by being an extremely good high-leveled priest. So popular he was grouping with other guild more than our own because he was getting tells all day long asking him if he wanted to group.
Whatever you decide to do having people to play with is gonna make this game 10x more fun. ;)
Its all about sitting in one spot for hours on end and killing the same mobs over and over (grind) then logging in an inn when you goto sleep. WoW is the easiest game to level to date in an RPG (well excluding shadowbane :soapb: )

Hey Niandralades, what server did you play on AO, I played that game for about a year and a half on the Atlantean server. Had a 216 MA in the end. How about you?

I already invited Nian to my server! But he makes excuses like the latency is too high... oh, boohoo! So what if its 8457ms!! That doesn't mean anything anyways.
And here I thought the higher the number the better ... are you telling me 8457 is not good?
Zounds I have been deceived!

Arcus, you know I would, but as danielle says, I get sucky pings on those servers. Even on the Eastern ones, I have at least 200ms ping. It goes up by about 100 each timezone. It's playable, but it's just annoying.
Nydoz, they had servers on AO?! I played when it was all just one. I bought it at release, and played until they made the infamous patch which totally screwed the game up and drove 50% of their playerbase to DAoC, which had been released about four days earlier. Smart move. But yeah, there was only one server. Unless you count the Test Server.

[i] well, im level 14 now, wahoo...It's hard being a casual player when your as casual as i am. I make a "friend" online to play with and the next night i log on there about 5 levels higher than me. With only about an hour if that a night to play i think it'll be a good investment b/c it's going to take me a year to get to L60...lol :cking:

Huh, we had this Danish dude in our guild and he seemed to do fine. He switched over to Horde, but he still plays on west. =/

I dunno. I can try it again, but every time I have, I've found that even instant cast spells take half a second to go through. Considering you can and do happily spend 5 talent points to reduce the casting time of some spells by that much, it seems stupid to play on those servers when I can play on the others.

I am a very casual player and I love the game. Not just cause of all the quests and such that can be done. But because of the freedom. You can feel free to help out a person whois getting hurt bad without the fear of stealing the kill or the exp. It is a way more social game then the others that I have played. I love love love the emotes they are great. I enjoy just running around messing around with them. Some people take this game wayyyyy too seriously man. Its not real life its just a game play it for what it is enjoy it. Sorry had to rant and rave about that due to the guy I was playing with last night. Wayyy too serious didnt want to explore at all.

Is there such a thing as a "run-on paragraph"? That was the most unintelligable thing I have ever read. Who are you? What do you want with us?

Only level 42 and you've had this game since day 1? I thought I played casually... I have a level 58, level 51, level 21, level 18, primarily.
Don't worry, you're not the farthest behind. Zeeg only has a level 30 and a level 6. Poor zeeg... =P
