MMORPG Game of the Year (http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/570/570596p1.html)

PC Game of the Year (http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/570/570793p1.html)

I voted World of Warcraft! It truly deserves it! Tight race between Half Life 2 and WoW. WoW needs our support! :)

If WoW wins game of the year it'll be a shocking acknowledgement of the total dearth of good games this year.

ouch, thats cold; on second hand, it did come out at the end of the year, and it's on everyone's mind still?

Well there were some 'big' games this year - CoH [It was a novel approach and game-design that was just based on 'fun], Doom 3, Half Life 2, GTA, Halo 2, and then WoW/EQ2

I mention WoW/EQ2 because they have done well in taking MMOs to the mainstream - the mindset of paying for a game online is becoming less and less absurd.

Doom 3, Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 were undoubtedly the biggest games of the year, in my opinion. Although that really doesn't make them good. Doom 3 was absolute ****ing gash. Really woeful. I mean, don't get me wrong, bad games win Game of the Year all the time. But if WoW wins it, I'll hang my head in shame for having contributed to such an atrocity. Seriously, we may as well just vote Army Men 56: Return of Sarge and Stuff as the game of the year. It'll have exactly the same impact.

I believe GTA is a *big* seller.

I liked Doom 3 simply for the tech - it made me feel like I was in a much scarier and darker version of Toy Story. Yes the plot line sucked. Yes the game was too predictable [enter black room, get assaulted from unknown direction, rotate between flashlight and gun].

On the other hand, HL2 has had its damn Steam problems, Halo 2 I hear was a disappointment in quite a few circles, and GTA was just ... another GTA :p. I'm personally still rooting for CoH simply because it showed that a simple MMO could exist - successfully.

Yeah, agreed. A non-license MMORPG that does well is good for the entire industry, let alone genre.
