It was an ambush. That was for certain.

The aged centaur looked over the land in the barrens seeing the bodies of dead warriors piled up by few living. Bragass was in the scout group for this attack or he would have been in one of the piles. He and two others were just stepping into Mulgore when the sounds of battle reached their ears across the Barrens.

The Tauren who attacked them swept in from the East under the cover of vegetation from a nearby oasis. With the sun in their eyes, the Centaur warriors would have a hard time seeing their attackers and coordinating against it. This plan was thought out well. Different from previous Tauren fights where the beasts relied on their size and strength to ram head-on into the Centaur columns. This new methodology was disturbing but not as disturbing at what lay in the middle of the battlefield

Directly in the center, where no bodies could be found, lied six broken totems. Each totem from one of the Tauren Tribes: Grimtotem, Palehoof, Skychaser, Dawnstrider, Ragetotem, and Thunderhorn. There was a seventh totem that was untouched standing among the broken ones. It was this seventh that pained the old Centaur the most.

“What does it mean Bragass?” a young centaur said.

“It is a message young one; a message of a new threat. The broken totems… the ones that attacked us broke the totems of their tribe to show they break from their past.”

“What about the totem left whole?”

“It is a totem I have never seen before. It is the totem of the tribe that struck us down and I fear we will be seeing more in the future,” Bragass muttered.

“Elder!” shouted a running Centaur as she came upon them, “The village has been attacked! They are driving us south out of the Barrens as I come to you!”

A trap within a trap! They knew we would take time with our dead and took the opportunity to strike deep in Centaur lands. They must have hidden their hoof prints to disguise where they went after the battle. This foe is cunning and takes no prisoners. Bragass looked back at the seventh totem. The symbol upon it, a red-rimmed circle with a drop of something red dripping off it, appeared to be looking at him... searching him for weakness.

“Run with me brothers! The cows may have cut us deeply but our blood is strong and our bones are stone. Tauren shall know that Centaur rule this land!” screamed Bragass as he ran toward the column of smoke that marked his once safe village.

Bloodmoon Tribe

History: Born out of the conflict against the centaur, the Bloodmoon Tribe was created as a means to adjust against the guerrilla-style warfare the centaur used. Most Tauren at the time saw this type of fighting as dishonorable and not the way of the Earth Mother but knew they faced extinction at the hands of the Centaur unless they did something. As a result, warriors were picked out to serve as a strike team against the Centaurs. They would use all skills they had to bring the war to the Centaur doorstep and support the main wave of defenders when needed. To spare their family members the shame of their deeds, members were forced to renounce their former tribes and break all bonds with them. The Bloodmoon was their family now and due to this formed them into a well-knit commando unit. After the War, the Tribe was disbanded and surviving members were allowed to live out the rest of their lives as they saw fit.

Current: It wasn’t until the Alliance was seen as a threat that the Bloodmoon Tribe was reformed. Membership was opened up to all members of the Horde instead of just Tauren. This time, being in the Bloodmoon Tribe was not a dishonor but a privilege. Still, most of those who flock to the Bloodmoon banner are orphans or those that usually do not fit in with their race’s society. They come looking for family and that is what they find. The heart of Tribe is brotherhood and the safe keeping of its members. Core membership still lies with the Tauren race but Forsaken (a race made of castoffs) have a large membership as well.

Today, you will find Bloodmoon members at the front lines of battle and in the dark corners of taverns. They carry their honor openly and know their actions speak for the whole. Likewise, their enemies know that if you mess with one of them you mess with the whole Tribe.

I think you left out the part about mystical spirits...
